The Five Stages of Collapse - Presentation from Fifth Annual Community Solutions Conference

Last night I got back from the conference in Michigan. My talk was one of the two keynote addresses at the conference (John Michael Greer gave the other one). The slide show and notes can be viewed here.

Slide 13: "Cultural Collapse"

Should be "We can recognize ourselves
AND each other" (typo).

Thank you, Dmitry Anatolievich! The typo has been fixed.

Neil Lori thinks Dmitry's 5 stages of collapse is akin/similar to a blunt economics professor. This is a must see/must read. The financial collapse has already started. Bush Bernanke and Paulson are like the Dutchman plugging wholes in the damn/dike to keep the water from coming out all at once. I cracked up at my work desk when I read Dmitry's compare and contrast of all you can eat vs. all you can scrounge. Final point: Printing more moolah/clams won't help {just look at Germany during the Weimar Republic}

Dimitry,
I bought your book and saw your keynotes at the Plan C Conference and I am honored to have been so fortunate. The book is one of the best I have ever read, immensely important and critical reading. When I finished it I simultaneously wanted to immediately re-read it and give copies to everyone I know and care about. I'm about halfway through re-reading and my girlfriend will read it next; meanwhile I may contact the publisher to see if I can get a bulk discount for a larger order to share with friends and family.

Both your participation at the conference and the book really moved me and have altered my thinking about what lies ahead, and I greatly appreciate your personal combination of humor, insight and stark seriousness. Thank you so much—I'd wanted to meet and thank you in person but missed the chance to introduce myself at the end of the conference. Please keep up the great work, and best wishes.

Your are welcome Dmitry (Как Вас по-батюшке?). You are doing a fantastic book, I've enjoyed your book and the lectures posted on line.

I even started reviewing your book
http://thepresidentofrussia.blogspot.com/2008/10/dmitry-orlov-reinventing-collapse.html
but didn't get around finishing it, with the 2008 US Elections and Vladimir Putin copying my unofficial blog:

But I will for sure. Once again, thank you for writing such a wonderful book - enjoyed it immensely.

Regards, DM.

sorry in the above message (2nd line) I meant to say "you are doing a fantastic JOB", - another typo :-)

Nicely done!

Have you or have you considered developing a set of leading indicators for each stage?

hi dmitry,

i've reposted your article (or most of it), on my website here: http://endofcapitalism.com

i posted a few of my comments as well. i think you present a very important perspective, but i also think a more positive view would be beneficial for motivating people to make the changes that need to be made. i struggle with this myself, but i wanted to point it out to you.

collapse of the us empire can easily be a good thing.

Hi Dmitry,
Thanks for sharing. I feel I've personally benefited from reading your articles by becoming more informed of the different possibilities we might be face in the future.

I would really like to send "The Five Stages of Collapse" in PowerPoint format to my friends. Is there a PowerPoint available for download? If so PLMK!
